3 Steps To Escape 9–5 And Start Making Money Online

Working a 9–5 sucks.

It sucks more when you know that so many people are making 5x, 10x the money I make in a month from my 9–5 in a day — I’m not kidding there.

While commuting to my office. I asked myself a question.

What should I do every single day that will help me make money online and escape from this soul-sucking 9–5?

My brain started to work.

It spit out 3 steps I need to follow for me to achieve what I want.

And today, I wanna share those 3 steps with you.

By the way, if you love working a 9–5, good.

I’m writing this for people like me, who hate working a 9–5 and want to make money online working 4 hours a day and use the rest of the time to hit the gym, read books, go on dates, spend time with family, etc.

Here are the 3 steps.

1) Stop numbing your pain

Many are not gonna like this one, but this step is extremely important.

Feel the pain.

Once I started to work 9–5, I noticed one thing.

Everyone hates working a 9–5 — it’s stressful, it’s painful, but they all numb their pain by…

Scrolling mindlessly.

Eating junk food.

Video games.

Web-series.

Gossips.

Movies.

Porn.

I’m not perfect. Even, I numbed my pain with a few of the things I mentioned above.

You need to cut out all these distractions and feel the pain.

Why?

Because, as Tony Robbins said,

Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.

If you keep numbing your pain every day, you’ll not take any action to change — you’ll not take any action to make money online and escape the 9–5 grind.

From now on,

Don’t waste time chasing girls.

Don’t scroll when you’re commuting (don’t scroll at all).

Don’t eat sugary junk food in your office canteen or elsewhere.

Don’t waste your time gossiping about garbage with your colleague.

Don’t waste your weekends and holidays binge-watching Netflix and hanging out with friends.

Yes, this journey is gonna be lonely.

But it will be worth it.

2) Create a routine

Once you remove all the distractions, you’ll struggle to even sit alone with your own thoughts.

Your mind will try to pull you back to the old routine. But don’t fall for it.

Create a new routine for yourself that’ll take you closer and closer to your goal each day.

Use the pain you feel every day as fuel to work your ass of.

By work here is what I mean…

  • Write every day (Write on Medium, X, or LinkedIn, but write).
  • Learn a high-value skill (It can be Copywriting, AI Automation, Ghostwriting, Video-Editing, Website Design, etc.)
  • Hit the gym NO. MATTER. WHAT.
  • Read a lot of books.

Those are the 4 things I recommend you do.

You can’t make money online without creating content and growing an audience, so write every day.

Write about whatever you wanna write. Don’t confuse yourself too much about what niche you should choose. First, build the habit of writing.

Also, focus on mastering one high-value skill.

Read the articles below to know more about this:

Hit the gym every day. You can’t build a strong mind without a strong body.

Finally, read a lot of books. Reading will help you fill the knowledge gaps you have. Read books related to business, productivity, copywriting, and communication.

When you’re commuting, read a book instead of scrolling on your phone.

Now, create a routine for yourself.

Let me share with you my routine so that you get an idea of how you can create yours.

My office bus arrives at 7:20 AM. So,

  • I wake up at 4 AM.
  • Hit the gym and work out until 5:30 AM
  • Come back home and get ready by 6:10 AM
  • From 6:10 to 7:10, I write.

And once I get on the bus. I either continue writing if I didn’t finish writing by 7:10, read a book, watch a course on YouTube, or listen to a podcast.

I also make use of all the breaks I get during my 9–5 working hours.

When commuting back home. I read or draft some articles.

Once I’m home. I will be left with 1 more hour. I’ll write again.

Yes, it’s difficult. Sometimes…actually, most of the time, I don’t feel like writing.

But there is no other choice.

I hope now you know how you can plan your routine.

3) Stick to the plan and take action every day

Now you have a routine.

And I won’t lie — sticking to it isn’t easy.

Some days, you’ll fall back.

You’ll scroll on social media.

Watching Netflix.

Eating junk food.

And that’s totally normal. It happens to everyone.

So don’t beat yourself up too much.

But what matters most is: How quickly you bounce back?

Once you see yourself falling back into your old routine, recognize it and immediately bounce back.

Try to stick to the plan as much as possible and take action consistently.

Ahh! I forgot to mention this.

Set 3 non-negotiables for yourself.

3 non-negotiables mean 3 activities that you’ll do EVERY SINGLE DAY regardless of what happens or how you feel.

My 3 non-negotiables are:

  1. Hitting the gym.
  2. Writing.
  3. Spending 1 hour learning a high-value skill.

Set your 3 non-negotiables.

Even if you are not able to do everything you planned out for the day. Your 3 non-negotiables must be done.
