The primary reason you’re not able to change your life is your identity.
You don’t see yourself as someone who deserves the life you want. That’s why you’re not taking any action. That’s why you struggle to stay consistent. That’s why you keep falling back to your old routine.
Your identity guides your actions and your actions guide your life.
So, if you want to change your life, you need to change your identity.
Now, what exactly is identity?
Identity (also known as self-identity or self-image) is who you believe you are. It’s your perception of yourself.
And changing your identity is not an easy thing.
Because it is deeply ingrained in your subconscious mind.
In fact, changing your identity = reprogramming your subconscious mind.
You can think whatever you want about yourself in your conscious mind. You can think, “I’m a writer. And I write every day.” “I’m a reader. I love reading books and I read every day.” “I’m a public speaker. I’m really good at public speaking.”
But none of this will work unless and until all these are registered in your subconscious mind.
In fact, this is why you struggle to stay consistent.
You can think that, “I’m going to write every day.”
But in your subconscious mind there is no registry that says “You’re a writer, who writes every day.”
In your subconscious it is just registered that, “You’re a regular dude who works a 9–5 and watches Netflix in the evening.”
So you act according to that identity.
You might sit down and write for a few days but after that it gets difficult because your current identity starts fighting you for its survival.
Because: You acting against your current identity = You trying to kill your current identity and give birth to a new identity.
The new identity is, “You’re a writer, who writes every day.”
Writing every day becomes easy once you register “You’re a writer, who writes every day.” in your subconscious mind.
How do you register that?
You’re not gonna like the answer.
Through discipline.
When I say discipline here is what I mean:
Acting regardless of how you feel.
The only way to change your identity is acting against it EVERY SINGLE FREAKING DAY OF THE WEEK.
If you just act like the person you want to be every day, your subconscious mind slowly starts to change.
When the changing is happening you’re gonna struggle a lot and it is going to be extremely painful (mentally). Because a massive rewiring is happening in your brain.
Once the rewiring is done. You’ll be a complete different person.
This new person is someone who is capable of changing your life.
So, if you want to change your life, change your identity.
Hope it was helpful.
See you again.
