There is a quote I like,
Win the morning, Win the day.
It’s SO freaking true.
Whenever I wake up early and start my day by doing something productive. My entire day ends up being productive.
The opposite is also true.
Whenever I check my phone first thing in the morning. Even for just 5 seconds. It ruins my entire day.
This phenomenon is called the Domino Effect.
Like, when you push one piece of a domino, it falls on the next and the next and so on.
Similarly, one productive act leads to another and then another, and so on.
One destructive act leads to another and then another, and so on.
Why does this happen?
Because of dopamine.
Let me explain.
After a good night of sleep, your dopamine levels tend to return closer to their natural baseline.

If you grab your phone, go through all your notifications first thing in the morning, you’ll spike and crash your dopamine level.

Once you crash, you’ll go into what I call the ‘Misery Zone’.
Note: When your dopamine level is in the Misery Zone, you’ll not be motivated to do anything productive. You’ll feel restless. You’ll go through mood swings. Your brain will be fogged. It feels so uncomfortable.
To escape from the ‘Misery Zone,’ you’ll start indulging in another dopamine-inducing activity and then another, and so on.
It is a vicious cycle.
You’ll keep on spiking and crashing your levels throughout the day. Wasting your time and feeling bad at the same time.
This is why how you spend the early hours of your day is extremely important.
If you want to ruin your day (and life) — grab your phone first thing in the morning.
If you don’t, do the following…
Make it a habit to turn off your wifi and mobile data before going to bed, so that you’ll not have plenty of notifications in front of your face once you open your eyes.

3 Habits To Sleep Like A Baby & A Secret Trick To Wake Up Early
Here is what I do after waking up:
- I wake up at 4 AM.
- Turn off the alarm.
- Grab my water bottle and drink the full bottle of water (1 liter).
- Use the washroom.
- Sit at my desk and write for 45 minutes if it’s a weekday, 90 minutes if it’s a weekend.
That’s it.
I don’t do anything stupid.
Make doing something productive first thing in the morning a habit.
It can be,
- Writing.
- Reading.
- Studying.
- Meditating.
- Journaling.
- Going for a walk.
- Going to the gym.
- etc.
If you wake up and do something productive for the next 90 days, your brain will get used to it, and it will become your new norm.
Simply put…WIN THE MORNING
